US raises Kenya travel advisory to Level 3 amid expanding Ebola threat
The United States upgraded its Kenya travel warning to Level 3, urging Americans to reconsider trips because of Ebola and other safety concerns.
The US State Department has raised its travel advisory for Kenya to Level 3, signaling that Americans should reconsider traveling there. The advisory now lists health risks, including the recent Ebola case that brings the national total to eight, as well as threats of crime, kidnapping, terrorism, civil unrest and unsafe traffic conditions. Kenya confirmed an additional Ebola infection on Sunday, and the neighboring Congo announced that the outbreak has reached its eighth province, North Ubangi, raising fears of cross-border spread.
The advisory notes that medical services in Kenya are scarce, particularly outside major cities, and often lack adequate medicine and equipment. Travelers are therefore warned that both health and security environments have deteriorated.
Why it matters
