UTA faces client exits, stalled merger talks and internal unease

United Talent Agency has been hit by a series of notable client departures, most recently comedian Nikki Glaser and podcast founder Alex Cooper, following earlier exits by Greta Gerwig, Ben Stiller, Kevin Hart and Judd Apatow. The agency also pursued a merger with The Team, the former Wasserman portfolio, but talks with its majority owner Providence Equity Partners stalled in July. Sources describe the climate as uneasy, with some fearing the agency’s future while others see the losses as part of normal client turnover.

CEO David Kramer addressed staff, admitting the impact of the departures but urging the firm to focus on its strengths in developing new filmmakers and its large digital creators division. The agency still retains star Timothée Chalamet and continues to push its comedy and emerging talent roster. Industry observers expect UTA to increase its presence at upcoming film festivals and awards season despite the recent turbulence.
