Uzbekistan celebrates independence in Seoul, touts $8 billion Korean investment
Uzbekistan marked its 35th Independence Day in Seoul, highlighting over $8 billion in Korean investment and urging deeper trade ties.
During a Seoul reception commemorating Uzbekistan’s 35th Independence Day and 34 years of diplomatic relations, Ambassador Alisher Abdusalomov emphasized the need to broaden bilateral trade and industrial cooperation. He cited President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s September state visit as a turning point that reinforced the Special Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Korean investment in Uzbekistan now exceeds about 11 trillion won, with more than 700 Korean enterprises active in the country, and the ambassador called for their involvement in the New Tashkent project.
The event also highlighted the sizable Uzbek diaspora in Korea—around 107,000 residents, including 22,000 students—who serve as cultural bridges. Deputy Minister Chung Eui-hae described the year as a watershed, noting joint moves into future growth areas like critical mineral supply chains, health care, AI and advanced technology, and looked ahead to upcoming diplomatic anniversaries.
