Velasco's legal team appears before NBI amid cash-delivery accusations
Lawyers for former Speaker Lord Allan Velasco visited the National Bureau of Investigation after being summoned over alleged cash deliveries linked to former police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr.
Lawyers representing former Speaker Lord Allan Velasco arrived at the National Bureau of Investigation on Monday after the agency issued an invitation concerning cash-delivery allegations made by former police patrolman Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. The NBI also seeks statements from Vice President Sara Duterte and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte, who were named in Gracioso's affidavit as recipients of money delivered on Velasco's direction.
Velasco's representatives called the accusations unfounded, and Vice President Duterte said she does not know Gracioso and has not received any cash, requesting a copy of the affidavit for review. Former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo described the suitcases of cash claim as a fabricated story aimed at disqualifying Duterte in the 2028 election. Additional figures named, such as former Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co and contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, have denied handing over money, and the Department of Justice said it will assess Gracioso's credibility before proceeding.
Why it matters
The investigation could affect the political standing of several high-profile officials ahead of upcoming elections.
