Vy suspends 250 train departures this weekend amid locomotive drivers' strike
Vy will cancel 250 train services on Saturday and Sunday after 46 locomotive drivers walked out on Friday, following a breakdown in talks with the Norsk lokomotivførerforbund.
On Friday, 46 locomotive drivers joined a strike after mediation between Vy and the Norsk lokomotivførerforbund broke down. As a result, Vy announced on its website that 250 train services scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be cancelled, impacting routes such as L2 Stabekk-Ski, R13 Drammen-Dal, RE10 Drammen-Lillehammer and others. The operator confirmed that it will not arrange substitute buses, taxis or flights for affected passengers.
Most striking drivers are based in Hamar and Lillehammer, with one stationed in Bergen. The union, led by Rolf Ringdal, is pressing for greater scheduling certainty and parity in wages after the Vy-Flytoget merger, describing one outlet pay policy as poor. Vy’s managing director Anne-Kari Bratten responded that the union’s demand exceeds realistic expectations and that the strike unfairly burdens travelers.
