Wales pulls its support for Gianni Infantino's FIFA re-election bid

The Football Association of Wales declared that it is withdrawing its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid to be re-elected as FIFA president for the 2027-2031 term, making it the inaugural nation to do so. The FAW said the president’s recent missteps in governance, leadership, stakeholder management and communication have eroded its confidence. Infantino’s proposal to sell shares of FIFA competitions to private investment firms sparked a global backlash, with UEFA threatening to boycott FIFA events, including the World Cup.

CONCACAF also issued a statement criticizing FIFA’s leadership after Infantino abandoned the plan. The Welsh association emphasized that failing to prioritize football’s best interests is unacceptable.
