Around 1.41 pm on Sunday a wildfire ignited near the Ermita del Rosario in Benahavis, a village popular with British expatriates on the Costa del Sol. Strong winds of up to 50 km/h hampered firefighting efforts as smoke drifted over the coastal beaches. Civil Protection dispatched firefighters, helicopters and airplanes, and an ES‑Alert instructed locals to shelter inside masonry buildings.
