Yanes jewelry appointed for second expert appraisal of Zapatero's seized jewels
Spain's Audiencia Nacional has tasked historic jeweler Yanes with a new gemological report to verify the origin and value of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's seized jewelry.
The Spanish high court has extended the investigation into the valuable jewelry uncovered in former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's safe, setting a three-day deadline for additional documentation. The initial appraisal, performed by Ansorena in cooperation with the Instituto Gemológico Español, placed the lot’s worth at 1.323.915 euros. Judge José Luis Calama has now assigned the renowned jeweler Yanes to carry out a second, comprehensive gemological and jewelry report.
Yanes will catalog each item, examine diamonds, white gold and precious stones, and seek to determine the pieces’ geographic origin and any maker’s marks. The court considers this step crucial for uncovering the facts and assessing any potential criminal significance of the seized items. Yanes, founded in one outlet century and known for royal commissions, is currently run by Cristina, Juan and Luis Yanes.
