Yankees sweep Red Sox in wild-card, set up ALDS clash with Rays

The Yankees completed a 9-2 sweep of the Red Sox in the AL wild-card series and will face the Rays in the ALDS.

In the decisive game of the American League wild-card series, the Yankees outscored the Red Sox 9-2, completing a sweep and moving on to the Division Series. The Bombers built a 2-0 lead with a solo homer by Luis Garcia Jr. and an RBI single from Cody Bellinger before exploding for six runs in the sixth inning, including a three-run blast by Bellinger and contributions from George Lombard Jr., Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon.

Max Fried delivered six strong innings, surrendering only one run on three hits while striking out six batters. Reliever David Bednar finished the game in the ninth inning, preserving the win. The Yankees now travel to Tampa to meet the Rays when the ALDS begins Saturday night.
