Zarzycký to Continue as Plzeň Mayor as ANO, STAN and Pro Plzeň Form Coalition

A coalition of ANO, STAN and Pro Plzeň holding 34 seats signed a governing pact in Plzeň, keeping Roman Zarzycký as mayor with Aleš Tolár and Tomáš Morávek as deputies.

In Plzeň, ANO, STAN and Pro Plzeň, backed by the Christian Democrats, signed a coalition contract that gives them 34 of the 47 council seats, ensuring a stable governing majority. The pact calls for reducing the council size from eleven members to nine and decreasing the number of advisory committees from thirteen to eleven. Roman Zarzycký of ANO will continue as mayor, with Aleš Tolár of STAN appointed first deputy and Tomáš Morávek of Pro Plzeň as a deputy.

The agreement was concluded promptly after the municipal elections, which saw the Pirates lose all representation. The remaining parties, including ODS and the Chceme Plzeň alliance of TOP 09, the Greens and independents, will occupy the opposition seats.

Why it matters

The coalition determines the political direction and administrative leadership of the Czech city of Plzeň for the coming term.
