AfD politicians face the highest number of politically motivated attacks in early 2026

According to data supplied by the government, 19 politically motivated violent offences were registered against Bundestag party representatives in the first six months of 2026, with the AfD accounting for 12 incidents - roughly two-thirds of the total. Security agencies attributed nine of the AfD cases to left-wing extremism, one to a foreign ideology, and two could not be clearly assigned to any political spectrum; none were labeled as right-wing motivated.

The Left party saw five incidents, two linked to the right, one to a religious ideology and two to other categories. No offences were recorded against CDU, CSU or SPD officials. Beyond violent crimes, the AfD also led in other offences targeting party members, offices and campaign materials, most of which were also linked to left-wing motives.
