Amirudin urges BN to clarify its stance on a possible Melaka alliance

Amirudin, the PKR vice-president, said Pakatan Harapan would not object if Barisan Nasional chose not to join forces for the upcoming Melaka state election, but he urged the coalition to declare its position early so PH can organise its own preparations. He observed that there is currently no sign of BN’s interest and expressed uncertainty about when the state assembly might be dissolved. Amirudin also highlighted BN’s inconsistent messaging, recalling earlier statements about running alone, later openness to working with Perikatan Nasional, and now the possibility of talks with PH, suggesting the changes could be meant to mislead rivals.

BN has empowered its Melaka chairman, chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh, to discuss electoral cooperation with any party. Coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi added that any formal negotiations would commence only after the assembly’s term ends on December 31, though Rauf has hinted the dissolution could occur this month.
