AUR leader urges Romanians abroad to join protests for detained Călin Georgescu

George Simion called on Romanians in France and the United States to help organize demonstrations supporting Călin Georgescu, who is under a 30-day pre-trial detention.

AUR president George Simion posted a message urging Romanians worldwide, with a focus on those living in France and the United States, to assist in arranging protests in favor of Călin Georgescu, who is serving a 30-day pre-trial detention. Simion, while in Poland, addressed international participants, asking them to share phone numbers and locations of Romanian supporters abroad. His call coincides with existing protests across multiple Romanian towns and outside the Central Detention Center where Georgescu is confined.

Simion also emphasized the need for continued public demonstrations and communication about the case. The protests aim to draw attention to Georgescu’s situation after a Bucharest Court of Appeal approved the prosecutor’s request for his preventive arrest alongside businessman Ionel Rusen.

Why it matters

The mobilization reflects growing political tension over the detention of a former presidential candidate.
