Australia tops Commonwealth Games medal count as swimming yields record haul

Ten days into the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, athletes have competed in ten disciplines, resulting in 215 gold medals awarded. Australia has surged ahead, winning 70 gold medals and a total of 171 medals, a margin that exceeds the combined totals of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England placed second with 29 golds, ahead of Canada and India, while the host nation Scotland earned 13 golds and finished fifth.

Australian swimmers dominated the pool, taking 37 golds, with Meg Harris claiming six individual titles and Sam Short adding four. South Africa’s Chad le Clos set a new all-time Games record with his 21st medal, and 76-year-old Louise Hoskins became the oldest athlete ever to win a Commonwealth gold in para-bowls.
