India caps Glasgow Commonwealth Games with record boxing, para and judo feats

India left Glasgow with 39 medals, highlighted by historic boxing wins, its best para-sport showing and a top-five finish on the table.

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India collected 39 medals - 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze - and placed within the top five overall. Although the tally missed the 50-medal mark set in every edition since 2002, the squad excelled in new disciplines, delivering a record boxing haul of seven golds and three silvers. Weightlifting saw Mirabai Chanu become the first Indian to win three consecutive Commonwealth golds, and Tejaswin Shankar captured a historic decathlon medal while nursing an injury.

Para athletes contributed six medals, including multiple one-two finishes, and the judo team secured two golds, its best showing ever. The contingent of 122 athletes saw 38 medalists, with Gulveer Singh adding a rare double in distance running. Despite a reduced squad and fewer medal-rich sports, India’s performance highlighted emerging talent and historic achievements across several events.
