Berlin SPD leader Steffen Krach rejects Senate post, focuses on party-parliament link

Steffen Krach announced he will not accept a Senate portfolio, stating his priority is to strengthen the Berlin SPD by linking the party organization with its parliamentary group. He described his mission as keeping the SPD unified and influential in the city. Coalition negotiations are expected to begin soon between the Left, Greens and SPD, though the Greens' co-chair in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will not participate because of seasonal work at a shipyard.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Minister-President Manuela Schwesig is also pursuing a three-party alliance to secure a majority without the AfD. Both regions face debates over antisemitism policies, with the Left pledging firm measures and the SPD demanding zero tolerance. Party members are being consulted on any future coalition agreements.
