SPD pushes back on care-insurance cuts ahead of cabinet vote

Just before a scheduled cabinet meeting on care-reform, the SPD publicly opposed any trimming of benefits, stressing the impact on caregivers, patients and relatives. Tim Klüssendorf urged the government to boost support for nursing-home residents and to rethink the funding structure. Health Minister Carsten Linnemann intends to bring a bill to the black-red cabinet that would keep the statutory care insurance financially stable for the coming year, as the system faces a projected multi-billion-euro shortfall for 2027.

SPD health spokesperson Christos Pantazis advocated a cross-system financial balance between statutory and private care insurers. Linnemann, who took office at the end of July, also announced plans for a broader reform commission to address long-term sustainability concerns.
