BJP accuses Congress of linking Indian protests to European unrest
The BJP claimed the Congress is part of a plot to destabilise governments, citing a report that ties Indian election protests to demonstrations in France, Spain and Albania.
During a press conference, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia invoked an investigative report to allege that the Congress party participates in an "anarchy and regime change" scheme. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi met representatives of the Progressive International at 10 Janpath on April 10, 2025, and displayed a purported photograph of the encounter. Bhatia claimed the group, which describes itself as anti-capitalist, connects unrest in France, Spain, Albania and India, aiming to topple elected governments and damage constitutional bodies.
The accusations reference one outlet's investigation titled “Global Chaos Inc Grows to 101 Groups,” which mapped a “red-green protest ecosystem” across nine nations. The report also highlighted Indian Alliance Paris as a bridge between French and Indian protest messaging. Bhatia further criticised Rahul Gandhi’s contacts with British MP Jeremy Corbyn and U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, suggesting they oppose India’s interests.
Why it matters
The BJP's allegations could intensify political polarization and affect public perception of protest movements in India and abroad.
