BRICS leaders convene in New Delhi to chart resilience, innovation and sustainable growth

Day two of the 18th BRICS summit took place in New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, where leaders held an open session centered on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. The session, named “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth,” aimed to identify shared priorities and strengthen ties among the bloc’s members. It comes after the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as reflecting a wider and stronger BRICS.

India’s chairmanship, which began on 1 January 2026, emphasizes a human-centric strategy across the four pillars, targeting economic, social and institutional robustness, emerging technologies, policy alignment and green finance. The grouping now includes 11 full members and 10 partner countries, together representing roughly half the world’s population, 40 % of global GDP and 26 % of trade. Discussions are expected to shape the bloc’s role in global governance, economic cooperation and sustainable development.
