Charity Care4Calays Accused of Misrepresenting Adult Migrants as Children

Care4Calais, a humanitarian group operating in Calais, has been involved in legal efforts to have adult migrants treated as unaccompanied children, a status that yields a 62% refugee approval rate versus 42% overall. Investigations revealed a Sudanese man in his 20s and an Ethiopian migrant with a receding hairline were each placed in children’s accommodation after the charity’s referral, though judges later confirmed they were adults aged 22 and 25.

Political figures Chris Philp and Zia Yusuf have called for the Charity Commission to examine the charity’s practices, accusing it of facilitating illegal immigration. The charity defended its work, arguing that age disputes are handled through legal processes and that most such cases are correctly identified as children. The Charity Commission has said it will assess whether any regulatory action is needed, without having opened a formal inquiry yet.
