Child killed and two others critically injured in Blue Mountains stabbing

On Sunday before 1 pm, members of the public discovered three children under five and a woman with stab injuries inside a car on Waratah Road, Valley Heights, in the Blue Mountains. After finding one child deceased, the witnesses administered first aid while awaiting emergency responders. Paramedics stabilized all three children at the scene and then drove them to Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children's Hospital, where each underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

NSW Police Superintendent John Nelson confirmed the children's father has been contacted, but no wider family members have yet been notified. The woman, estimated to be in her 40s, had not previously been known to police, and investigators are not currently seeking additional suspects. Police are examining the weapon used and the circumstances of the attack, and have urged anyone with information or video to come forward.
