CIS poll shows PSOE widening lead over PP ahead of November election
The latest CIS poll released on Wednesday places the PSOE ahead of the PP by a growing margin as the November 29 general election approaches.
The Centre for Sociological Research (CIS) published its October barometer on Wednesday, reflecting voter sentiment ahead of the November 29 general election. The poll, carried out from October 1 to 6, gauges reactions to the eviction of Maricarmen Abascal, opposition to recent housing decrees, and the snap election announced by Pedro Sánchez on October 5. According to the CIS, the PSOE’s backing rose to around 34%, surpassing its September figure and exceeding its 2023 election result.
The PP fell to the low-20s percent range, widening the gap with the socialists. Vox edged up slightly, while the Sumar-Frente Amplio coalition, comprising Sumar, IU, Los Comuns and Más Madrid, was recorded for the first time with a modest vote share. Podemos slipped further, and negotiations continue among left-wing parties to form a single candidacy before the midnight deadline on Friday.
Why it matters
The poll indicates shifting voter preferences that could reshape the balance of power in Spain's upcoming general election.
