CEO poll projects PSC win, ERC rise and Sumar slump in Catalonia general election

A Centre d’Estudis d’Opinió survey forecasts a strong victory for the PSC, gains for ERC and a sharp decline for Sumar in the upcoming Catalan general election.

According to a survey by the Centre d’Estudis d’Opinió of the Generalitat, the PSC is poised to repeat its 2023 performance with 18-19 seats in the Catalan delegation to the Spanish parliament. ERC is projected to climb from its current seven seats to between ten and eleven, whereas Sumar, which ran under that label in the previous election, is expected to shrink dramatically to two or three seats. Junts appears set to lose ground, falling to four or five seats, while Vox may more than double its representation to five or six seats, leaving the PP relatively unchanged at six or seven seats. The poll was carried out between 1 September and 5 October and does not yet reflect the effect of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s election call or the negotiations among left-wing parties such as the proposed Frente Amplio led by Ada Colau and the ERC-Podemos talks headed by Gabriel Rufián. Additional parties like the CUP and Aliança Catalana are projected to secure at most one seat each.

Why it matters

The poll indicates how Catalan parties may shape Spain's parliamentary balance after the upcoming general election.
