Cristela Georgescu shares moving tribute as husband remains in pre-trial detention

After the Bucharest Court of Appeal confirmed the pre-trial detention of former presidential hopeful Călin Georgescu, his spouse Cristela Georgescu posted a heartfelt statement on Facebook. She thanked the hundreds who stood in the rain before the court, noting the atmosphere of tears, trembling air and prayers soaring like flames. The gathering, estimated at roughly three hundred people, displayed tricolour flags and vocal support, even disrupting traffic on Splaiul Independenței.

When the verdict was announced, a portion of the crowd began shouting slogans against television broadcasters. The court had previously overturned a lower-court order that would have moved the detention to the defendant's home, rejecting his request for house arrest. Georgescu remains detained pending investigation by DIICOT for alleged serious fraud and organized crime.
