DAP fields three fresh candidates aiming to sweep all seven Melaka seats

DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong says the party's three new candidates give it the strongest chance to capture all seven state seats in Melaka's November 14 election.

Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong highlighted that the party's three fresh faces—Jegasilan K (Gadek), Poo Long Suan (Duyong) and Jason Tze-Xi Nathan (Pengkalan Batu)—represent its best shot at winning all seven state seats in the upcoming election on Nov 14. The candidates were announced by Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also disclosed the full slate of 21 PH candidates, with Amanah and PKR receiving five and nine seats respectively.

DAP will defend four seats held by incumbents Kerk Chee Yee, Allex Seah Shoo Chin, Low Chee Leong and Leng Chaun Yen, while aiming to add the three open seats. The newcomers, aged 31 to 56, possess notable academic credentials such as master's degrees in law and Tamil literature. Khoo purchased nomination forms at the Melaka State Election Commission office in Wisma Persekutuan, confirming DAP's acceptance of the seat allocation. The commission has scheduled nomination day for Oct 31, early voting on Nov 10, and the main poll on Nov 14.

Why it matters

The candidate lineup shows DAP's strategy to potentially dominate a key state election, influencing Malaysia's political balance.
