Defense Minister Margarita Robles Named Second on PSOE Madrid Slate

Margarita Robles will occupy the number-two spot on Pedro Sánchez’s PSOE list for Madrid in the upcoming elections.

In the latest PSOE candidate selection, Defence Minister Margarita Robles has been placed as the runner-up to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on the party’s Madrid list for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Sánchez described Robles as an “extraordinary” minister and noted their collaboration since 2014-2015, emphasizing both political respect and personal friendship. The provincial PSOE assembly in Madrid is set to convene this afternoon to approve the complete roster of candidates for both chambers.

Alongside Robles, other senior figures such as Industry Minister Jordi Hereu in Barcelona and regional leaders like Óscar Puente in Castilla y León are slated for top positions on their respective lists. The finalized lists and Sánchez’s candidacy will be ratified at a federal committee meeting in Fuenlabrada on Saturday.

Why it matters

The placement signals the party’s reliance on high-profile ministers to boost its electoral appeal in key regions.
