Delhi Police say video of officers in shoes at Bangla Sahib was misrepresented, legal action pending
Delhi Police clarified that officers shown wearing shoes in a video at Bangla Sahib were only in a common walkway and announced legal action against those sharing the clip, calling it malicious.
Delhi Police issued a statement after an online video appeared to show police officers wearing shoes on the premises of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Officials clarified that the officers were in a common passage that all worshippers use before reaching the point where shoes must be taken off, and therefore were not violating any religious protocol. The police described the video's spread as having "malicious intent" aimed at outraging the Sikh community, and announced that legal action would be taken against those responsible for its distribution.
The incident occurred as police units were deployed outside the gurdwara to detain participants in an anti-CEC demonstration organized by the Cockroach Janta Party on October 10. The department attached the footage of the passage to illustrate the context. Authorities warned that the content was intended to tarnish the police’s image.
