Delhi police to file charge sheet within a week, seek adult trial for three juveniles

Delhi police have announced that a comprehensive charge sheet in the gang-rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl, whose body was discovered in Swaroop on September 13, will be filed within a week. An application will also be presented to the court seeking adult trial status for three alleged juvenile perpetrators, aged 16 and 17, who were placed in a boys' correction home after arrest. The fourth suspect, a 19-year-old, has been remanded to judicial custody.

Investigators have gathered birth and school certificates and may conduct bone-ossification tests to verify the minors' exact ages, as well as a similar test for the victim whose family lacks documentation. CCTV footage linked a goods vehicle to the crime, and the vehicle’s owner identified his 17-year-old brother as the driver, who confessed and named the other suspects. Police are examining claims that the assault was triggered by the victim’s alleged threat to file a rape case and are probing whether the murder was pre-planned.
