Democratic incumbent Ami Bera runs in California's newly drawn 3rd District against Republican Robb Tucker
Congressman Ami Bera is seeking a seventh term in the U.S. House by contesting California's redrawn 3rd District, where he will face Republican Nevada County supervisor Robb Tucker.
Long-time Democratic congressman Ami Bera announced his bid for re-election in the 2026 general election, but will now campaign in California’s newly redrawn 3rd Congressional District rather than his current 6th District. The 3rd District covers large sections of Placer, El Dorado and Nevada counties and extends into Sacramento, and Bera will be challenged by Republican Robb Tucker, a member of the Nevada County Board of Supervisors.
Bera, a physician by training, has represented the state in Congress since 2013, making him the longest-serving Indian-American in the chamber, and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the New Democrat Coalition. His congressional office reports returning more than $23 million to local taxpayers and assisting over 36,000 Sacramento County residents since 2013.
Bera lives in Elk Grove with his wife, physician Janine Bera, and their daughter Sydra. The outcome will decide who represents the district in the next term of the U.S. House.
Why it matters
The race will shape representation for a newly configured California district in the 2026 Congress.
