Designated premier Siegfried Mureșan defends cabinet nominees amid mixed parliamentary votes

Designated premier Siegfried Mureșan praised all his ministerial candidates after the first round of parliamentary hearings, noting that even those receiving negative opinions performed well.

Designated premier Siegfried Mureșan used his Facebook page to commend all his ministerial nominees after the first day of parliamentary hearings. Four candidates - Sebastian Burduja (Energy), Radu Miruță (Defense), Cătălin Drulă (Transport) and Irineu Darău (Economy) - were given negative opinions, whereas Tánczos Barna (Vice-premier and Agriculture) and Alexandru Nazare (Finance) received positive ones. Mureșan claimed the negative opinions stemmed from political criteria and maintained that the hearings confirmed his cabinet’s readiness.

He praised the overall performance and expressed confidence that the team can govern from day one. Additional ten nominees, including Mircea Abrudean, Dragoș Pîslaru, Raluca Turcan, Oana Gheorghiu, Oana Țoiu and Andrea Chiș, are set for hearings on Tuesday, with mixed outcomes reported. The full cabinet is slated for a confidence vote in Parliament on Wednesday at 13:00.

Why it matters

The outcome of the hearings will determine whether Mureșan's proposed cabinet can secure parliamentary confidence and govern.
