DSB convenes national crisis meeting after Telenor mobile network outage
The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) held a crisis meeting with key agencies after serious problems with Telenor's mobile network disrupted communications.
The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) led a national crisis meeting in response to severe disruptions in Telenor's mobile network. The gathering, held Thursday night, brought together representatives from Bane Nor, Avinor, Statens vegvesen, Politidirektoratet, Hovedredningssentralen, Helsedirektoratet and the county governors. Elisabeth Longva emphasized that mobile communications are a vital part of national infrastructure and that the scale of the outage required coordinated action.
Both the police and health authorities reported major challenges in contacting emergency responders via mobile phones, prompting the dissemination of alternative contact numbers to the public. In contrast, the emergency services' own communication system, Nødnett, functioned without interruption, underscoring its importance during critical incidents.
Why it matters
The outage highlighted the vulnerability of mobile networks and the need for coordinated emergency response planning.
