Erdogan Calls Greece a NATO Ally, Not an Adversary, Amid UN Talks

During a press briefing aboard the Turkish presidential aircraft, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that Greece is not an enemy but a neighboring NATO ally, and warned against turning bilateral issues into domestic political fodder. He noted that Turkey does not involve itself in Greek elections or changes of government. Erdogan made the comments after delivering his address at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

In the same venue, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged to pursue Greek-Turkish dialogue grounded in respect for international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which Athens cites as the framework for resolving their maritime dispute. Both leaders underscored the importance of maintaining constructive relations despite ongoing disagreements over continental shelf and EEZ boundaries.
