FA chair Hewitt urges Infantino to disclose World Cup plan documents and lift Balogun ban

Debbie Hewitt, who serves as both England FA chair and FIFA vice-president, sent a formal request to Gianni Infantino and FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafstrom seeking the publication of documents related to the abandoned plan to sell a commercial stake in the World Cup to private investors. The letter also called for one outlet's review of the decision to uphold striker Folarin Balogun's one-match suspension, which arose after he was sent off in the United States' 2-0 round-of-32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina and would have kept him out of the subsequent match against Belgium.

President Donald Trump contacted Infantino to press for a reassessment, prompting FIFA to suspend the ban for a year. Hewitt’s appeal arrives amid broader criticism of the sell-off proposal from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF. FIFA is scheduled to discuss the issues at its Council meeting on October 15.
