Farmers camp on Victory Square roofs after night of clashes with police

Violent clashes between gendarmes and farmers earlier in the day gave way to an eerie calm at night in Victory Square. The shepherds, refusing to abandon their protest, laid out blankets and sleeping bags on the pavement and in the kindergarten garden opposite the Antipa Museum, creating improvised beds under the open sky. They reiterated a pledge to remain on the capital’s streets, stating they will not depart until the government acknowledges their 16 demands.

Images captured show some resting their heads on curbs that had been broken earlier during the confrontations. The demonstrations are set to continue, with participants from across the country announcing a renewed presence in Bucharest tomorrow, after the government failed to address the extended EU export ban slated to last until the end of 2026.
