FIFA accuses UEFA of launching disinformation campaign over presidential election

FIFA has submitted a legal response in a US federal court accusing UEFA of conducting a “disinformation campaign” intended to affect the FIFA presidential election slated for March. The accusation follows UEFA’s petition for access to documents and evidence concerning the now-defunct FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, which proposed selling a $4.2 billion ownership share to private investors and valued the commercial rights at about $20 billion.

FIFA contends that UEFA’s briefing contains numerous false or misleading statements about the organization and President Gianni Infantino, denying any personal profit motive. It also rejects UEFA’s broader request for additional documentation, emphasizing that the FFE plan required approval from both FIFA’s member associations and its board and would have been overseen by FIFA. Previously, UEFA asked a Florida court to gather witness testimony for a planned complaint against Infantino, alleging secret development of the proposal. The dispute underscores ongoing tensions over FIFA’s governance structure, with Infantino confirmed as a candidate for re-election and no challengers announced.
