Former Labour MP and ex-Speaker Adrian Rurawhe dies after illness
Adrian Paki Rurawhe, who served as Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives and as Labour MP for Te Tai Hauāuru, has died following a recent illness, his family said.
Former Speaker Adrian Paki Rurawhe, a Labour MP for the Te Tai Hauāuru electorate since 2014, died after a recent illness, his family announced. He served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from August 2022 to December 2023 and retired from politics earlier this year. In their statement, his relatives highlighted his roles within the Ratana church, his iwi Ngāti Apa and his service to the nation, describing his passing as peaceful and surrounded by family.
The family thanked supporters for prayers and messages of aroha. Rurawhe will lie in state at Whangaehu Marae before being interred at Ngā Puketuurua, Ratana Pā.
