Former minister Jamil Khir faces three fraud charges over Tabung Haji asset sales
Former Prime Minister's Department minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom was charged with three counts of causing Tabung Haji to sell assets worth over RM860 million between 2015 and 2017.
Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, a former minister in the Prime Minister's Department responsible for religious affairs, was arraigned at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on three fraud charges. He is accused of causing Lembaga Tabung Haji to dispose of assets valued at more than RM860 million to Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Projects Management Co Ltd during three transactions in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The court hearing recorded Jamil Khir's not-guilty pleas before Judge Rosli Ahmad.
The alleged misconduct is said to have taken place at his departmental office and at the Putrajaya Islamic Complex. Under Section 403 of the Penal Code, each charge could result in imprisonment ranging from six months to five years, corporal punishment and a monetary fine. Jamil Khir, a former Jerai MP, attended the hearing in a black suit.
