German MP Volkmann argues Ukraine aid protects Europe, warns against AfD isolation

Johannes Volkmann, a 29-year-old CDU MP and former Lahn-Dill district council leader, recounted his municipal partnership with Brovary and his ongoing work in the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee and United4Ukraine network. He noted a sharp increase in Russian airstrikes while praising Ukrainian determination as a beacon of freedom. Volkmann argued that German contributions bolster Ukraine’s defence and, in turn, enhance Europe’s security by sharing battlefield experience with NATO forces.

He warned that the AfD’s call to end aid could jeopardise German-Ukrainian cooperation and destabilise the region if a refugee wave follows a Russian victory. The MP also condemned Russia’s hybrid tactics, stressing the need for a strong European deterrent, and called for continued scrutiny of corruption in Kyiv to maintain international support.
