Global fan groups petition FIFA chief Infantino to step down over World Cup profit plan
Supporter organisations from several continents have launched a petition demanding Gianni Infantino resign as FIFA president after his proposal to sell future World Cup revenues to private investors was withdrawn.
Supporter groups spanning Europe, Africa and North America have filed a petition that asks FIFA president Gianni Infantino to leave office following his attempt to market future World Cup earnings to private investors, a move later abandoned after intense criticism. The campaign, tagged #InfantinOut, calls for a total overhaul of FIFA to ensure such a "debacle" cannot recur. It condemns the concentration of power around the presidency, opaque decision-making and a perceived personality cult.
The petition also references Infantino's earlier backing of the failed European Super League and his push for biennial World Cups. UEFA, along with the leadership of CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation, have publicly stated they have no confidence in Infantino. Despite the mounting pressure, Infantino has so far refused to step down.
Why it matters
Fans argue that Infantino's profit-selling plan threatens the integrity and public trust of football's global governing body.
