Government sets four instalment dates for diesel car subsidy, first payment end-September

The cabinet has approved a diesel-engine passenger-car subsidy and detailed its distribution in a regulation issued in Magyar Közlöny on Friday evening. The support will be disbursed in four separate instalments, with the first transfer on September 30 and subsequent payments on October 30, November 13 and December 7. To qualify, a vehicle must be diesel-powered, not exceed 110 kW (about 149 hp), and the owner must have been listed as the car’s operator at the beginning of the year.

The benefit is a one-time payment per person, even if they own multiple eligible cars. Funds are automatically credited by the Magyar Államkincstár to the account previously used for vehicle-tax payments; owners who settled the tax by other means will receive cash by post to the address on record with NAV. The subsidy is tax-free and financed from the central budget.
