House prosecutors consider Vice President Duterte's foreign trips as evidence of unexplained wealth

During a recent press conference, House prosecutor Terry Ridon announced that the prosecution intends to present records of Vice President Sara Duterte’s 19 overseas journeys from 2025 to 2026 as evidence in the unexplained wealth case under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. The team argues that the expense of such frequent non-official travel does not align with her P4.2 million annual salary and her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, which listed roughly P88.5 million in 2024.

The impeachment complaint also accuses her of failing to fully disclose assets and of retaining business interests while in office. Prosecutors plan to subpoena documents from the Vice President’s office, the Deputy Executive Secretary’s office, and the travel agency that arranged the flights, as well as to call witnesses who approved the trips. The Senate impeachment court previously granted a subpoena for her bank records in July. Former Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang is listed as a witness in the case.
