Hungarian Prime Minister's Vatican visit sparks hypocrisy accusations from KDNP

Prime Minister Magyar Péter announced a private audience with Pope Francis and subsequently met Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. After arriving in the Vatican, he posted that he had visited the grave of Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Basilica, quoting the late pontiff's slogan "Do not be afraid!" KDNP faction leader Bence Rétvári described the premier's Vatican appearance as absolute hypocrisy, recalling comments that Magyar Péter is not the person he pretends to be.

The party argued that the government's actions undermine Christian values, pointing to policies favoring broader abortion rights, potential e-uthanasia legislation, recognition of same-sex unions, and educational measures restricting LGBTQ+ content. Rétvári also cited recent decisions such as withdrawing investment status from the Pázmány Campus project and ending certain scholarship and charity programs. The KDNP urged the prime minister to align his governance with the Christian principles he publicly invokes.
