Indonesia unveils six-step plan to achieve national energy self-sufficiency

President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the need for Indonesia to become energy self-sufficient and lessen imports. A cabinet directive outlined six steps, starting with accelerating domestic sources such as palm oil, corn, cassava, sugarcane, coal, geothermal and solar energy. The second phase targets the production of B50 and E50 fuel blends to replace imported fuel oil.
Renewable expansion includes building solar power plants to reach 100 GWp within three years. Subsequent actions focus on boosting oil output by optimizing existing fields and speeding up exploration, while also moving forward with plans for a nuclear power plant. Finally, the government will produce a comprehensive, measurable energy roadmap covering annual goals, financing, timelines and task allocation.
