Indonesian police detain 11 suspected Daulah Islamiyah affiliates in six-province sweep

Indonesia's Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 arrested 11 individuals alleged to be linked to the Daulah Islamiyah terrorist network across six provinces.

Indonesia's Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) announced the capture of 11 individuals suspected of affiliation with the Daulah Islamiyah terrorist group after receiving intelligence on suspicious activity in six provinces. The suspects are accused of consolidating networks, recruiting both in person and via social media, disseminating propaganda, and conducting militant training that includes physical exercises and firearms handling.

Investigators uncovered a recurring modus operandi involving virtual meetings that linked supporters across regions. The police have publicly listed the detainees by initials and ages and are now carrying out additional raids, evidence collection, and witness interviews. Earlier, a 22-year-old suspect identified as YDKAP was arrested in Surakarta, prompting his family to seek clarification about the arrest and his treatment. Authorities emphasize that the operation is part of a broader effort to detect and prevent potential terrorist attacks.

Why it matters

The arrests aim to disrupt a trans-regional terrorist network and prevent future attacks in Indonesia.
