Irene Montero says talks with the Frente Amplio continue as monarchs visit Ceuta

Irene Montero confirmed that negotiations with the Frente Amplio are ongoing, while King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia began a historic visit to Ceuta.

During a radio interview, Podemos eurodeputy Irene Montero announced that talks with the parties forming the Frente Amplio are still underway, following a pact with ERC to run together in Catalonia's general election lists. Montero emphasized safeguarding the negotiations and aiming for a positive conclusion. Sumar spokesperson Verónica Martínez Barbero reiterated confidence that Podemos will eventually join the Frente Amplio project, recalling the delayed 2023 agreement.

On the same day, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia commenced a historic trip to Ceuta, the first royal presence in the enclave since 2007, with a schedule that includes a municipal reception, a school visit, and a commemorative ceremony at a Muslim cemetery. The monarchs will spend the night in Ceuta before traveling to Melilla the following day.

Why it matters

The negotiations could reshape left-wing alliances ahead of Spain's general election, and the royal visit signals heightened attention to Ceuta after a recent migrant influx.
