Kamala Harris Returns to California Campaign Trail to Boost House Races

Kamala Harris is re-entering California’s political arena by headlining two upcoming fundraisers for Democratic House hopefuls. On September 26 she will support City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert in a San Diego-area event for the newly redrawn 48th Congressional District, a seat opened by Republican Rep. Darrell Issa’s retirement. On October 2 she will travel to the Sacramento region to campaign for former state senator and pediatrician Richard Pan, who is contesting Rep. Kevin Kiley in the newly configured 6th District.

The appearances come after Proposition 50 temporarily replaced the state’s independent redistricting system with a legislature-drawn map, reshaping both districts. Political consultant Matt Klink says Harris’s stops aim to mobilize Democratic voters rather than expand her coalition, noting the new maps already favor Democrats. The events highlight Harris’s effort to stay relevant ahead of the 2028 presidential cycle while helping vulnerable Democrats secure key seats.
