Kósa Lajos warns more Fidesz members could face detention

Fidesz deputy chairman Kósa Lajos said that additional party figures may be taken into custody, beyond those already named such as Matolcsy and Hankó.

Kósa Lajos, a senior figure in the Fidesz party, told a Debrecen newspaper that the recent arrests of party members like Matolcsy and Hankó may be only the beginning. He argued that the detentions serve as a diversion orchestrated by the Tisza Party, which he described as a "distraction show." According to Kósa, the government's inability to keep its campaign pledges forced it to shift focus onto the budget controversy.

He warned that many more Fidesz affiliates could be seized in the future, though it remains unclear who will ultimately be charged. The comments were made during a video interview and reflect ongoing tensions within Hungarian politics.

Why it matters

The remarks highlight growing political tension and potential legal actions against members of Hungary's ruling party.
