KP chief minister lands by helicopter to kick off PTI long march for Imran Khan's release
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Lakki Marwat by state helicopter to lead PTI's long march demanding the release of jailed founder Imran Khan.
On Sunday, KP chief minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Lakki Marwat via a state helicopter, joining PTI workers at a temporary helipad before the party's long march began from Gandi Chowk on the Peshawar-Karachi Indus Highway. The convoy, filmed by PTI on X, moved amid large crowds, while Information Minister Attaullah Tarar criticized the helicopter as a violation of Islamabad High Court directives. Former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who led the march's departure from Dera Ismail Khan, appealed for discipline, stressing that any road blockages or clashes would not represent PTI members.
Security forces deployed police, armored vehicles and bomb squads at the rally site, and Section 144 curfews were imposed across several districts. The march aims to pressure authorities to free Imran Khan, the party's founder and former prime minister, with a detailed route planned through multiple districts before reaching Islamabad.
Why it matters
The protest highlights escalating political tension in Pakistan and raises questions about the use of state resources for partisan activities.
