Lady Shri Ram College moves classes online after teenage gang-rape near campus

Lady Shri Ram College for Women halted its scheduled classes on Tuesday and moved to an online format for Wednesday after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Aastha Kunj Park close to the campus. Principal Kanika K Ahuja emphasized that protecting students’ safety, security and well-being was paramount and arranged for faculty mentors and a college counsellor to be available. The police said the three accused, identified as Hemant, his brother Mukesh, and Asif, pretended to be police officers before separating the girl from her male friend and assaulting her.

All three were detained on Tuesday; during the arrest Asif fired at officers near DM Office Road, injuring a bullet-proof jacket and later being shot in the leg. The victim was examined at AIIMS and forensic teams collected evidence at the park. The incident prompted immediate concerns about student safety in the area.
