Lewis Hamilton crashes Ferrari in Madrid practice, defies team orders to stop

During the final practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton crashed his Ferrari after braking into the last corner, hitting the tyre wall and tearing off the front wing. Team radio messages from race engineer Carlo Santi repeatedly ordered him to stop, but Hamilton replied that he would try to reach the garage if possible and otherwise stop safely. He managed to drive roughly two-thirds of a lap before pulling over, after which the car was recovered on a flat-bed truck.

Earlier in the session, British driver Ollie Bearman spun at turn 10 and collided with the barrier, sustaining heavy damage to his Haas but no injuries. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli topped the timing sheets, with Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris completing the top four, while Max Verstappen and George Russell followed.
